Sarantis Group continues its investments in Greece, constantly aiming at a greener production. This investment on PVs in Greece came to further strengthen the Group’s responsible production facility at Oinofyta and to optimize its operational benefits, while reducing the energy related operating costs.
Sarantis Group continues its investments in Greece by upgrading and modernizing its production facility at Oinofyta. The installation of state-of-the-art photovoltaics in the production unit of Oinofyta has been completed and will contribute to the mitigation of the Group’s carbon footprint. This action is an indication of the environmentally and energy responsible operation of the Group, aiming to contribute to the climate change mitigation and the Group’ s progressive path to green transition.
The power of the installed photovoltaic system is 1 MW and the generated energy is estimated to reach 1,350 MWh, covering almost 50% of the factory’s needs in terms of energy, while at the same time an expansion of the current system is under examination in order to further increase its capacity and achieve the plant’s full energy autonomy. The production of renewable energy will actively contribute to the reduction of the Group’s carbon footprint in the future and will serve the increased energy needs of the plant, setting the base for a more sustainable production. This action is fully in line with the Group's strategy towards a more sustainable direction in terms of development, maintaining the optimum balance between the Group’s financial performance and its responsible production practices.
The factory of Oinofyta, following the implementation of a series of investments, has been upgraded, significantly increasing the efficiency of the Group's production. The modernization of the factory’s production is compatible with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), holding all the necessary certifications to ensure quality and safety with ISO 9001 - Quality Management System, ISO 22716 - GMP for Cosmetics, FSSC 22000- Food Safety System Certification, while the photovoltaics launch will further strengthen ISO 50001- Energy Management Systems, by upgrading the Group’ s energy footprint. At the same time, the Group is in the process of obtaining the international standard ISO 45001: 2018 for Occupational Health & Safety Management and is also preparing to initiate the process for the environmental certification according to ISO 14001.
A holistic approach is followed for the continuous improvement of energy efficiency, aiming at the mitigation of energy use and consequently at the reduction of the Group’s CO2 emissions. This shift to renewable energy supplements the transition of the Greek production from diesel to gas and also further strengthens the installed solar collector system that meets a significant part of the plant’s needs for cooling energy, systematically paving the path for a greener operation at a Group level.
Moreover, similar actions are taken into consideration, including obtaining environmental certificates in the Group’s production countries, aiming to have a long-term positive impact on the environment.
Sustainable development is at the heart of Sarantis Group activities, while it is a compass towards the implementation of its business commitments in the context of responsible production and consumption. Being a central pillar of the Group’s Sustainability strategy, it significantly influences the production factories of the Group and its wider product approach. Thus, special emphasis is placed on actions aimed at minimizing packaging and adopting circular economy waste practices, safeguarding sustainable and circular sourcing of raw and packaging materials, improving energy efficiency, use of renewable sources and reduction of GHG emissions in production and distribution.
The Group’s aim is to provide a better tomorrow through strategic choices and initiatives that improve its environmental footprint and create a sustainable future for all.
